매우 기본적인 것이지만 두 전치사 모두 장소와 시간에 사용할 수 있기 때문에 의외로 실수가 잦다.
대체로 at은 정확한 장소/시간에 쓰이고, in은 공간적 (부피) 개념이 있는 곳에 쓰이는 듯.
- shows a point in space (공간상의 어느 특정 장소)
e.g.) at my house
at the bottom of the page
standing at the door/ at the bus stop
arrived at the airport

- shows a position contained by something with depth, length, and height; within (an enclosed space); inside
e.g.) keep the money in a box
put the plates in the cupboard
She's in the bathroom
to sit in a car
lying in bed
go swimming in the sea (cf. sailing on the sea)
children playing in the garden/ in the street
in the corner of the room (cf. at the corner of Broadway and 42nd Street)
- (with the names of countries, seas, towns, and villages) not outside

e.g.) in prison for stealing

한국의 가족들로부터 전화가 왔다.
부모님 집에 형제들이 다 같이 모여 저녁 먹고 제야의 종소리 듣고 헤어지는 중이라고.
유럽의 많은 나라들처럼 덴마크에선 제야의 종 대신 밤새 폭죽을 터뜨린다.
저녁부터 시작되는 firework는 12시 카운트다운에 맞춰 클라이맥스를 이루고 새벽까지 그칠 줄 모르는데
한가로운 주택가 주변이 이 정도면 다운타운에선 전쟁 수준이 아닐까.
덴마크 겨울은 낮이 짧다. 8시쯤 해가 떠서 오후 4시 이전에 해가 지고. 그나마 1주일에 절반이상 비가 오거나 흐리다.
초콜릿과 카페인, 그리고 알콜 만으로는 이런 계절적 우울 증후군을 이겨낼 수 없을 듯.
알뜰하고 남에게 폐 끼치는 것도 받는 것도 싫어하는 덴마크 사람들이
아낌없이 돈을 쓰며
새벽이 될 때까지 시끄러운 폭죽 소리에 게의치 않는 걸 보면
나름 좋은 스트레스 해소가 되는가 보다.

Computational music 으로 한 우물 파고 있는 교수도 있네.
올해 ICCC-12 장소는 더블린. 논문 마감은 1월 16일.
